Murkowski is leading pork advocate pushing earmarks

Even as Senate Republicans approved a “moratorium” on congressional earmarks, a small but significant contingent of the caucus is openly vowing to flout the new rules.

Led by Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, the contingent is “going rogue” against the party’s leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, who Monday made a high-profile switch to back the earmark ban.

Even with McConnell’s support, proponents of the earmark ban appear to be at a loss as to how it will be enforced against their colleagues who are determined to seek pork-barrel projects.

“I know that it is non-binding and individual senators are going to come to their own conclusions about that,” said Sen. John Thune from North Dakota, a potential presidential candidate in 2012 who promised to abide by the ban himself.

“Ultimately, the ban will be enforced by the voters. If GOP senators want to violate the ban they do so at their own peril,” said John Hart, a spokesman for Sen. Tom Coburn from Oklahoma, one of the Senate’s fiercest earmark foes.

Of course those who push earmarks are doing so to buy votes for either other pet projects or from voters back home. It appears Alaska has not cured its addiction to spending other people's money if it elected Murkowski as now seems likely.

Drones appear to be replacing jets for many operations.  The Russia-Ukraine war is an example of that.  Drones are often hard to detect and can be used for intelligence operations as well as for attacking enemy targets.  It would not surprise me to see drones engaging other drones in combat.  They also cost much less than manned fighters.

Apple's huge investment in US including Texas facility

Blaze: Apple announced a $500 billion commitment to infrastructure in the United States over four years, its largest commitment to domestic spending to date. Apple said it will expand teams and facilities in Arizona, California, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Washington as part of its new spending. With a new facility in Houston, Texas, Apple will reportedly double its investment in advanced manufacturing along with increasing investments in AI and silicon engineering. The company said in a press release that the Houston facility will produce servers to support Apple Intelligence, the "personal intelligence system that helps users write, express themselves, and get things done." ... The Texas facility will be for advanced technologies.   Texas has become a place that is very supportive of the tech industries.  Austin and Houston have seen much of the tech growth in the state.  Texas universities have been active in the AI field.
