  MAZE This actually happened. 2022. California Governor Gavin Newsom announces that California has the biggest state budget surplus in American history. Newsom: "No other state in American history has ever experienced a surplus as large as this." Gavin proposed returning some of the money to the people. With everything being so unaffordable in California, people were happy to be getting a few dollars back from the state.  The only problem? It was all a lie. The $97.5 billion surplus was a four year projection that Newsom's people based on faulty revenue assumptions.
