Trump vs. the climate kooks

National Review: Liberal climate action groups are suing the Trump administration in the name of radical climate justice over the Environmental Protection Agency’s plans to revoke the Obama-era greenhouse gas policy known as Endangerment Finding. The Endangerment Finding policy, implemented in 2009, declared that six greenhouse gases pose a threat to public welfare and, under the Clean Air Act, allows the government to regulate emissions from ventures such as cars and power plants. “With this proposal, the Trump EPA is proposing to end sixteen years of uncertainty for automakers and American consumers,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a statement. “If finalized, rescinding the Endangerment Finding and resulting regulations would end $1 trillion or more in hidden taxes on American businesses and families.” The two groups suing the administration — the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) — have a long history of trying to tear down the...

Chicom communication devices a threat to grid

Newsmax: U.S. energy officials are reassessing the risk posed by Chinese-made devices that play a critical role in renewable energy infrastructure after unexplained communication equipment was found inside some of them, two people familiar with the matter said. Power inverters, which are predominantly produced in China, are used throughout the world to connect solar panels and wind turbines to electricity grids. They are also found in batteries, heat pumps, and electric vehicle chargers. While inverters are built to allow remote access for updates and maintenance, the utility companies that use them typically install firewalls to prevent direct communication back to China. Using the rogue communication devices to skirt firewalls and switch off inverters remotely, or change their settings, could destabilize power grids, damage energy infrastructure, and trigger widespread blackouts, experts said. "That effectively means there is a built-in way to physically destroy the grid,"...

Ukraine uses electronic warfare against enemy drones

Yahoo News: Electronic warfare (EW) is growing ever more important for Ukraine’s military. In an article for The Economist, Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi described EW as the key to victory in the war, potentially allowing Ukraine to break the stalemate on the battlefield. The Ukrainian Air Force recently announced that EW systems are now used to disrupt the navigation and targeting of Russian kamikaze drones , driving them kilometers away from their intended targets. NV asked Anatolii Khrapchynskyi, deputy CEO of a Ukrainian company that manufactures EW systems (the company’s name is classified for security reasons) about how electronic countermeasures will affect the course of the war, going forward. Khrapchynskyi: In terms of miltech [military technology], there’s a need for tactical-level EW systems to counter FPV [first-person view] drones, attack UAVs, and reconnaissance drones. We’re engaged in the development of EW systems against these drones. Currently, we have ser...

The Russia-Ukraine electronic warfare ops

Telegraph: The Russian military’s electronic-warfare capability was the envy of the world . Emphasis on was. In 23 months of hard fighting, Ukrainian forces have not only blunted the Russians’ electronic advantage – on key battlefields, they’ve tilted it in their own favor. It’s clear the Ukrainian military understands the importance of the electromagnetic fight. But it’s less clear the US military understands it. Electronic warfare, or EW, is invisible . It’s the practice of tapping, blocking and hijacking the enemy’s radars and radios – while preventing the enemy from tapping, blocking and hijacking your own radars and radios. It’s high-tech work, involving sensitive electronic receivers and powerful transmitters. It’s all about frequencies and wattage, time, space and coordination. After all, if you’re not careful, the same radio noise that might jam the enemy’s communications might also block your communications. EW is expensive, unglamorous and requires a lot of training. So ...
