 John Solomon gives a summary of some of the newly declassified material.  It is absolutely clear that the scam was started to try to change the subject about Hillary Clinton's email scandal.  It looks like it morphed into a coup attempt against Trump.  The Muller probe looks like a totally bad faith operation.  I suspect they were trying to trick the President into an obstruction of justice charge. Real Clear Investigations: Mueller and Weissmann Op-Eds Greatly at Odds With Their Report and Evidence They are still trying to justify their prosecution of Stone for bragging about contacts he did not really have. Their whole investigation was a knowing bad faith effort to facilitate a coup attempt when they knew the Russian collusion nonsense was a hoax and that the Steele dossier was garbage. They set out to try to extort testimony against the President from people in his campaign by manufacturing process crimes and trying them on unrelated matters that they would not prosecute Democrats for. They appear to have hoped that this would manufacture an obstruction of justice charge against the President to be used as an excuse for impeachment.  It was an elaborate coup attempt.

Red States: The Drafting of the Indictment Against Roger Stone Shows The Duplicity Of Mueller’s Special Counsel Prosecutors The Muller team knew that Stone was not colluding with the Russians or Wikileaks, but they also knew that he boasted about contacts with them that he either did not have are were not material.  So they wrote the indictment about his bogus boasting as if they were true.  It was a clever and unethical approach to dealing with a gadfly.
