The Mueller-Weissmann attack on Roger Stone sought to criminalize a prankster

Washington Post:

Prosecutor to tell Congress that Barr, top aides sought to cut Roger Stone ‘a break’

House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler wants Attorney General William P. Barr to testify in the Democrats’ investigation into what they warn is dangerous politicization at the Justice Department.
I think Stone deserves a break.  The Muller-Weissmann assault on Stone looks way too hardball.  It is the kind of prosecutorial treatment usually reserved for terrorists and not a rather harmless prankster who thumbed his nose at them.   They should have gone for six months max for his actions instead of treating him like a dangerous criminal.

When you consider that the whole Muller investigation was something of a sham, to begin with, because they knew the central thesis of their efforts was not true.  The media should stop treating it like it was about a real crime.  The main effort appeared to be an attempt to extort testimony against the President by pushing process and unrelated criminal offenses which had nothing to do with the principal reason for the investigation.

They appear to be trying to provoke an obstruction of justice charge out of the President in service of a coup attempt.

There is zero wrong with cutting him a break.  It is something prosecutors do every day.
