Insult the Government? It May Land Russians in Jail

As the economy falters and the government’s popularity slumps, Russian lawmakers approved bills intended to further control the flow of information.
Governments tend to do this when there is plenty to grumble about.  It will drive the dissent underground and could make it much more dangerous for the government and the people.  The heirs of Stalin are beginning to live large in Russia again.  It signals that the government is too weak to tolerate free speech.
