Appeasing the Turkish despot

NY Times Editorial:

Sending the Wrong Signal to Turkey

Prime Minister Erdogan should not be appeased in his silencing of all satire and criticism by leveraging refugee relief against Chancellor Merkel.
Erdogan has gone from being a lousy NATO ally to making extortionist demands against freedom of speech outside his country.   Inside Turkey, he has attempted to silence critics by taking over media operations and has lately started taking over Christian church buildings.   In the fight with ISIL he mainly attacks the Kurds who are fighting the enemy.  It is time for the Turks to throw out this despot.
