The case against the Fed Chair

Newsmax: It's hard to believe that a couple of years ago Time magazine considered naming Federal Reserve Board Chairman Jerome Powell as their "Person of the Year." He may well have won, if it hadn't been for someone named Taylor Swift. Powell has been idolized by the left for one reason: He's been a thorn in the side of President Donald Trump for years. If Trump says "ying," Powell says "yang." Last week Powell finally lowered the federal funds rate, and better late than never. But his speech to the media was a tirade against Trumponomics. He was filled with doom and gloom in his statement, telling global investors that the economy is growing at only 1.6% so far this year and is expected to grow 1.6% next year. What country was he talking about? Afghanistan? Here are the facts: In the second quarter of this year, the U.S. economy grew by 3.3%, and with a few weeks to go in the third quarter, the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is forecasting ...

Trump vs. Fed Chairman

Federalist Wire: ... In a statement on Tuesday, President Donald Trump launched a fresh offensive against Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, whom he branded a “loser,” hinting at a potential lawsuit over the Fed’s $2.5 billion headquarters renovation project. The president’s remarks come as he continues to press Powell to slash interest rates, a demand the central banker has so far resisted in 2025. Trump didn’t hold back, even taking a swipe at his former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin for recommending Powell back in 2017. “Jerome ‘Too Late’ Powell must NOW lower the rate. Steve ‘Manouychin’ really gave me a ‘beauty’ when he pushed this loser,” Trump wrote, notably misspelling Mnuchin’s name while reflecting on his first-term decision to appoint Powell. The president’s frustration stems from what he calls Powell’s tardy and damaging decisions, claiming, “The damage he has done by always being Too Late is incalculable. Fortunately, the economy is sooo good that we’ve blow...

Chicom infiltration of Federal Reserve

DailyWire: The Chinese government carried out a decade-long information theft campaign against the Federal Reserve , a report released Tuesday from Republican members of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs revealed. The Federal Reserve, charged with executing a dual mandate of maximum employment and stable prices, is presently determining policy to navigate the United States economy through the highest inflation rates in four decades. The report found that China — which holds nearly $1 trillion in Treasury securities — has used talent plan recruitment and promises of academic positions in an effort to gain influence and glean information from the central bank. “The Chinese government makes no secret of wanting to be the world superpower,” the report said. “No sector or institution is off limits, and China has shown that it will use any means necessary to achieve its goals.” China has been conducting its campaign against the Federal Reserve since...

Senator challenges the left-wing politicization of Federal Reserve

Legal Insurrection: Sen. Toomey Presses Fed on Racial, Social Justice Activism “…neither the warming of the earth’s temperature nor severe weather events are a threat to the stability of the financial system. Experience bears this out.” The left is constantly pushing its agenda in areas where it does not belong.  They are looking for excuses to impose the evils of liberalism wherever they can.

Who knew? Lower interest rates frees up money for other investments and lowers the cost of expansion

Washington Post: If Federal Reserve lowers interest rates, Trump would save millions The president has been demanding that the central bank cut rates; if it does, the Trump Organization could see large savings in loan payments, according to public filings and financial experts. Lower interest rates help boost the economy and the business expansion leads to greater job grown.  The Washington Post thinks it is all about Trump's business, but the goal is to keep US GDP growth and job growth.   The paper is so obsessed with the President they can't see the big picture.

The Fed is trying to slow the growth of the economy and the markets are reacting negatively

Washington Examiner: President Trump again took aim the Federal Reserve for its interest rate hike last week — but said he had overall confidence in the U.S. economy. “They’re raising interest rates too fast because they think the economy is so good. But I think that they will get it pretty soon,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday. Trump said “we’ll see” when asked if he has confidence in Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, whom he appointed and has repeatedly criticized. Early Monday, Trump said on Twitter: "The only problem our economy has is the Fed." Monday was the worst Christmas Eve trading day for the New York Stock Exchange ever, and U.S. stocks have dropped sharply throughout December. But Trump said he still has confidence in the U.S. economy, despite recent struggles. "I have great confidence in our companies. We have companies, the greatest in the world, and they're doing really well. They have record kinds of numbers. S...

Perry and the Fed

David Warren: Rick Perry, the governor of Texas, made waves this week, upon entering the Republican presidential fray, by suggesting that Ben Bernanke, of the Federal Reserve, would be treacherous if he continued to "print money" to grease the government's way out of the solvency crisis. Perry's colourfully frank Texas language got him into big trouble with all the smooth people who routinely refer to politicians like him as "terrorists." That language may have been rather cleverly chosen, for the splash it created had two immediate political consequences, beyond persuading people who would never vote for Perry that they must never vote for Perry. First, it elbowed Ron Paul and others aside, by making Perry the "don't print money" candidate. His Republican rivals on the tea party side are now moaning about his theft of their thunder. Second, it puts Bernanke on the spot. For after the sympathy has evaporated for a man who has been verball...

Perry right on the substance of his remarks about the Fed

Opinion Journal: All the world's right-thinkers are denouncing Rick Perry for suggesting this week that Texans would get "pretty ugly" with Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke if he guns the money supply any more between now and the 2012 election. His poor choice of words aside, the Texas Governor is right to put monetary policy front and center in the 2012 Presidential debate. ... ... everybody knows Mr. Perry meant no literal harm and was indulging the irrational exuberance that is one of his trademarks. The faux-outrage from liberals who routinely refer to the tea party as "terrorists" shouldn't be taken seriously. The real news isn't the rhetorical gaffe but the substance and politics of Mr. Perry's demarche. Here we have a Presidential candidate, a Texas populist no less, laying out a position in favor of sound money. This is a bear walking on its hind legs. The ghosts of Wright Patman and Henry B. Gonzalez are howling in the Hill Cou...

Perry right on the money in Fed slam

Larry Kudlow: ... No, Ben Bernanke is not a traitor. This is a policy dispute; it’s not a matter of patriotism. However, and this is an important however, the rest of Perry’s statement suggests that his analysis of Fed policy is right on target. In other words, wrong words, right analysis. The Texas governor, who by some polls is the new Republican presidential frontrunner, went on to say, “We’ve already tried this. All it’s going to be doing is devaluing the dollar in your pocket. And we cannot afford that.” Well, to me that is exactly right. Let’s take a quick look at Bernanke’s QE2 record of pump-priming: The dollar fell 12 percent on foreign-exchange markets. The consumer price index jumped over 5 percent at an annual rate. And the $600 billion cheapening of the greenback led to skyrocketing commodity prices, including oil, gasoline, and food. That oil-price shock is one of the principal factors behind the 0.8 percent first-half economic stutter. As a result of the jump i...

No apologies from Perry to Fed Chairman

Chris Cillizza: Twelve hours removed from a controversy about his suggestion that Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke was engaging in “treasonous” behavior Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s presidential campaign didn’t try to walk back the remark. In fact, they doubled down on it. “I am passionate about the issue but I stand by what I said,” Perry told reporters in Iowa today. Although Perry’s campaign is only a few days old, the episode provides a telling insight into the Texas governor: he is brash, bold and unapologetic about being so. And that just might make him a perfect fit for the current Republican primary electorate who is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. A look back across Perry’s rhetorical history suggests that this latest controversy is nothing new. ... Put simply: Rick Perry doesn’t apologize — and it’s worked for him politically. Now, that strategy working in Texas and it working on the national stage are two different things. But, there is some evidence that P...
