Burgess Owens talks about Rush Limbaugh's influence on his politics

BizPac Review:   Burgess Owens recalls first interaction with Rush Limbaugh during ‘Bo Snerdley,’ aka James Golden’s return to radio Owens always came across as a very bright guy. Owens, a Utah Republican and former All-Pro, first-round NFL draft pick who played safety for 10 seasons with the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders, told Golden that in 1992 when he was working as a rep for technology company WordPerfect in New York City, he would try to make sure he was in his vehicle during Limbaugh’s show, whose flagship station at the time was WABC. “I called in and you let me through,” Owens said, adding that the call marked “the beginning of a good relationship” with Limbaugh, 70, who passed away in mid-February following a year-long battle with cancer. Owens went on to recount how he had lost a business he started shortly after retiring from the NFL and that he was forced to work, for a time, as a chimney sweep. ... “The first time I had a chance to tell that story was with Rush i...

Remembering Andrew Breitbart:

William Jacobson: ... Breitbart was a huge fan of Rush Limbaugh, as Joel Pollak recently wrote  at Breitbart  on the death of Rush, quoting from Andrew’s 2011 memoir: One day I asked [my future father-in-law Orson Bean] why he had Rush Limbaugh’s book The Way Things Ought to Be on his shelf. I asked him, “Why would you have a book by this guy?” And Orson said, “Have you ever listened to him?” I said yes, of course, even though I never had. I was convinced to the core of my being that Rush Limbaugh was a Nazi, anti-black, anti-Jewish, and anti-all things decent. Without berating me for disagreeing with him, Orson simply suggested that I listen to him again. … This is where my rendezvous with destiny begins. I turned on KFI 640 AM to listen to evil personified from 9 a.m. to noon. Indeed, my goal was to derive pleasure from the degree of evil I found in Rush Limbaugh. I was looking forward to a jovial discussion with Orson to confirm how right I was. One hour turned into t...

The divisive left hated Rush Limbaugh

Dennis Prager: The most powerful conservative medium in America—indeed, in the Western world—is talk radio. Tens of millions of people regularly listen to local and national radio talk hosts. Whenever I have European conservative writers on my own national show, I always note that in terms of conservative influence, the great difference between America and their countries is that we have talk radio and they don’t. Every guest has agreed. This was largely thanks to one man: Rush Limbaugh. There was talk radio before Rush, but he made it into a national force. Liberals and leftists dismissed him throughout his career, and again in their obituaries this week, as “divisive,” as if the left hasn’t been the most divisive force in America since the Civil War. This lack of self-awareness on the part of the left is mind-numbing. Calling America “systemically racist,” calling every white American “racist,” and separating college dorms and graduating exercises by race—that’s not divisive? Us...

Limbaugh's EIB should stay on the air

NY Times: Where Will Rush Limbaugh’s 15 Million Listeners Go Now? No one will have a megaphone like his again. But podcasters, “26-year-old conservatives on Instagram” and Sean Hannity all fill the void. Rush has used several different guest hosts through the years. I have particularly enjoyed Mark Steyn who has an irreverent sense of humor in criticizing the evils of liberalism.  The EIB has also rerun some of Rush's past programs.  There should be no shortage of programing critcal of Democrats and theri policies.

The Rush Limbaugh legacy--Love for America and conservatism

Stephanie Hitt: Rush Limbaugh was unapologetically human.  He spoke not just from the heart, but from his bones.  His is a voice that will never be repeated.  But the many voices that he inspired in conservative thinking, commentary, and talk radio will be his legacy that can start to fill the deep hole he leaves behind.  It does not seem a coincidence that he passes on Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten period of reflection and prayer.  He just may have been called to do his work on a superior platform. Like so many millions, he helped me understand what conservatism really means — that it is about people and the natural inseparable rights that define human existence and propel us to our full potential.  He spoke joyfully and passionately on these ideas...five days a week! He also helped me to trust my own instincts.  At the end of the 1980s, I spent a rare summer at home before starting law school....

What was behind all the Limbaugh hatred

Jeff Charles: Well, you already saw how the left was jumping for joy when the news of conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh passed away, right? So-called progressives on social media took the opportunity to lambast him for hurting their feelings for nearly 50 years, and their reaction demonstrated just how effective the conservative icon was. (See: Left-Wingers Turn in a Disgusting Performance Following Rush Limbaugh’s Death ) But what exactly motivated this outpouring of vile vitriol from high-profile leftists? Well, many indicated that their over-the-top hateful response was inspired by – you guessed it – Limbaugh’s supposed racism. I bet you didn’t see that coming, did you? As with any other prominent individual who spent most of his time in front of a microphone, Limbaugh has made racially insensitive remarks, some of which he has apologized for. But let’s cut the crap, shall we? Many in his position have made comments they have had to walk back or apologize for. But the ...

Rush Limbaugh's friend and coworker explains the man

You can tell how much Golden, aka Bo Snerdly, dearly loved Rush Limbaugh as did his millions of fans.

Rush Limbaugh saved a man from the evils of liberalism

Dex Bahr: Like millions of my fellow Americans, it was like a gut shot hearing the news that Rush Limbaugh went to be with the LORD after succumbing to stage four lung cancer.  At first, I was very sad, but I then got an image of Rush just beaming joyfully in the presence of God, and it brought a smile to my face.  I have never met Mr. Limbaugh, but I can honestly say he changed my life.  He is the reason why this American, who also happens to be Black, became a conservative. I first listened to Mr. Limbaugh in 1993, and I was intrigued.  I didn't really have a choice.  You see, the car I was driving at the time only had an AM radio, and the only station it received was the one broadcasting Rush's syndicated show in the morning. During my commute to work, my only listening choice was Rush Limbaugh.  At first, I listened out of morbid curiosity, since Limbaugh at this point in was beginning to become the subject of many ne...

Democrats expose their hatred and priorities

Instapundit: FORGET FIXING AMERICA, LET’S KEEP TRUMP OUT OF ARLINGTON CEMETERY: That’s the mindset of the 13 House Democrats co-sponsoring H.R. 484, the “No Glory for Hate Act of 2021” that bars former President Donald Trump from being buried at Arlington National Cemetary. I get the impression that those Democrats hate Trump.  Trump obviously loves the country and Democrats hate the direction he was trying to take it.  Their insults are directed not just at Trump but to everyone who still supports him.  They hate us too.  Speaking of left-wing hate: University of California staff celebrates Rush Limbaugh’s death as media pitch Limbaugh's great accomplishment was fighting back against the hate coming from the left and exposing the evils of liberalism.

Rush Limbaugh vs. the left

"Every Democrat constituency group has at least two things in common. They hate us. They despise opposition. That’s why they created political correctness. Speech censorship. They hate opposition and they’ll do anything they can to eliminate it." They are the party of hate.  Just watch Pelosi and you can see it oozing from her.

A sad day for American conservatives

Fox News:   Rush Limbaugh, conservative talk radio pioneer, dead at 70   Limbaugh's death, following Stage IV lung cancer diagnosis, announced by family I feel like I have lost a dear friend, even though I never met him in person.  America has lost a true patriot.  I think his legacy will live on in talk radio and in the conservative movement.

Walter Williams was a terrific man

Thomas Sowell: Walter Williams loved teaching. Unlike too many other teachers today, he made it a point never to impose his opinions on his students. Those who read his syndicated newspaper columns know that he expressed his opinions boldly and unequivocally there. But not in the classroom. Walter once said he hoped that, on the day he died, he would have taught a class that day. And that is just the way it was, when he died on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. He was my best friend for half a century. There was no one I trusted more or whose integrity I respected more. Since he was younger than me, I chose him to be my literary executor, to take control of my books after I was gone. But his death is a reminder that no one really has anything to say about such things. As an economist, Walter Williams never got the credit he deserved. His book "Race and Economics" is a must-read introduction to the subject. Amazon has it ranked 5th in sales among civil rights books, 9 years after ...

Audience of 50 million listen to Trump on Rush Limbaugh show

Image
Rush Limbaugh: MEGA MAGA! The Largest Radio Rally in History   There is a transcript of the show as well as the link to watch it.  I listened to it yesterday and thought it was terrific.  The combination of Rush Limbaugh and Donald Trump got the President's message out in an unfiltered way that the mainstream media would not.  It is a long transcript, but if you missed the show, I think you will find it interesting.

Democrats are behind the violence in this country

Rush Limbaugh: ... The rioting and the looting, the destruction of private property, all of this is happening because it’s being committed by people on the left. Those are the people engaged in this activity. They are the ones looting. They are the ones firebombing. They are the ones that are destroying. They’re the ones threatening. They are the ones literally trying to grab people out of their cars and beat them up. They are the people who are attacking people in public, in restaurants and other places and harassing them and bullying them and threatening them physically. This is all being done by people on the left, and it’s all being done by people who are going to vote Democrat. None of this has been condemned by any Democrat. The destruction of private property, the bullying of people… Now, you let some 6-year-old bully some 5-year-old in kindergarten, the Democrats will be right there. But we’re about to see bullying like we haven’t seen before for the president’s judicial...

The Mueller goon squad gets another look

Red States: Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) has been the recipient of outrageous attacks from Democrats and their supporters since early 2017. This was richly detailed in Lee Smith’s 2019 book,  The Plot Against the President: The True Story of How Congressman Devin Nunes Uncovered the Biggest Political Scandal in U.S. History . Nunes’s 2018 memorandum,  Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Abuses at the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation  ( full text here ), was panned by Democrats and Democrat operatives in the media while Adam Schiff’s “counter-memo” ( full text here ), which defended the FBI’s FISA warrants and other activities associated with surveilling the Trump campaign, was lauded and praised to high heaven. Except that the Horowitz report,  Review of Four FISA Applications and Other Aspects of the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane Investigation  ( full text here ) completely confirmed Nunes’s memo while at the same time totally debu...

A Rush baby explains her delight in learning from Limbaugh

Nicole Russell: I grew up in Minnesota, the heart of the Midwest: a blue state of really nice, hard-working people who love winter, lefse, and Al Franken. Starting at about 13 years old until college, I worked for my dad, a successful remodeling contractor, over school breaks. I hated the work. Often the only female on a construction site or a hotel in the midst of remodeling, I felt awkward. I got dirty. I wasn’t good at painting or wallpapering. The hours were longer than anything I’d ever experienced, and we rarely ate out during the day. (Somehow cold granola bars just added to the laboriousness.) I know, I sound like a wimp. I was. I gained great respect for hard-working men and blue-collar workers during that period. The only glimmer of happiness in the job was that I got quality time with my dad and this other guy: Rush Limbaugh, who recently announced he has been diagnosed with “advanced lung cancer.” At every job site, the routine was the same: I’d dress in painters’ c...

The man who gave conservatism equal time to push back against the evils of liberalism

Matthew Continetti: Florida governor Ron DeSantis spoke to Rush Limbaugh last fall at a gala dinner for the National Review Institute. The radio host was there to receive the William F. Buckley Jr. award. "He actually gave me one of the greatest compliments I've ever had," Limbaugh told his audience the next day. "He listed five great conservatives and put me in the list." DeSantis's pantheon: William F. Buckley Jr., Ronald Reagan, Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas, and Limbaugh. Good list. No media figure since Buckley has had a more lasting influence on American conservatism than Limbaugh, whose cumulative weekly audience is more than 20 million people. Since national syndication in 1988, Limbaugh has been the voice of conservatism, his three-hour program blending news, politics, and entertainment in a powerful and polarizing cocktail. His shocking announcement this week that he has advanced lung cancer, and his appearance at the State of the Union, wher...

Rush says deep state and courts actively trying to sabotage Trump's presidency

Image
Hopefully, this is the death rattle of liberalism in Washington, but it is going to take persistence on the part of American voters to defeat their efforts. Maria Bartiromo has more on the deep state activity in an interview with Denin Nunes.

Rush--Obamacare is like cable where they make you pay for something you don't want or need

Rush Limbaugh: ... RUSH: Well, you know, you may have performed an experiment which proves that point. Let me ask you what… Is the clip that you played for them my comparison of bare-bones, stripped-down cable coverage and comparing that to health care and how both make sense? CALLER: That’s exactly right. RUSH: And that resonated with ’em? CALLER: It really did. RUSH: See? I knew it. I knew it would. I knew it would. ‘Cause they hate cable, and when you accurately explain what’s bad about cable and why they dislike it; then say, “It’s the same thing that’s going on in health care. They’re making you buy things you don’t need and would never buy on your own,” it had to click. Well, I really owe you big time. I’m happy to give you that iPhone since you took the time to do that. ... That is an interesting comparison.  It strikes at the heart of the mandate issue and it demonstrates how popular Ted Cruz's consumer freedom agenda will be if Republicans pass it.

Dear Rush Limbaugh, I am not going to be insulted into voting for Trump or Hillary

Ben Howe has a long piece in response to an item Rush Limbaugh read and embraced on his show yesterday. ... It is sad to see that Rush has taken the route of cheerleading Donald Trump, all the way to the point of completely contradicting himself , lying to his listeners about it , and now, taking aim at the very principled conservatives that were the core of his audience for decades and agreeing with the author of a widely read article that Never Trumpers are "The Washington Generals." And there's even a term used for the conservative Never Trumpers. He calls them "the Washington Generals." I wonder where he got that? That happens to be my term for our side. Specifically, the Republicans in Congress. I think I named them the Washington Generals, happy to be on the field, happy to wear the uniform, but supposed to lose and happy to do so. This was what he did on yesterday's show as Caleb Howe pointed out in a post this morning. The widely read art...
