Russia has denied any affiliation with the several different military forces making their way via land and sea into Ukraine, which still remains severely divided after the government overthrow, with small pockets of violent protest still taking place throughout the peninsula, and a Russian blockade in the Black Sea (inset right) that is preventing any use of the Ukrainian navy. Currently 30,000 Russian troops are estimated to be in Ukraine. The Geneva Conventions require that troops wear identifying insignia when engaged in operations.
