Ted Cruz refutes bogus attack on Sessions by Al Franken

Image
This shows just how sloppy the Democrat charges against Sessions have been. William Smith also refutes the Democrat characterization of Sessions:

Is Sharpton worried about finally being called to account for his failure to pay taxes?

Image
Daily Mail: Al Sharpton calls for a 'season of civil disobedience' ahead of Jeff Sessions 'nightmare' appointment as attorney general The Reverend said this Saturday's march in Washington DC will be the start of a 'season of civil disobedience', adding it will show politicians that the protesters have to be taken seriously. He may be invited to the Big House rather than the White House because he is a tax scofflaw.  His real fear is that Sessions will enforce the law.  His theatrics are passed their sell by date.

The Democrats unsavory attacks against Jeff Sessions

Washington Post: Sessions, who should face a tough hearing, has plenty of fans among his fellow senators Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general is genial, respectful and patient. And that has given fellow Republicans and even some Democrats reason not to scrutinize the more unsavory aspects of his political history, which includes racial allegations. The only reason he may face a tough hearing is because some Democrats are going to repeat bogus charges about him that worked in a demagogic hearing when he was nominated for a judgeship.  The bad faith of the Democrats pushing these charges is palpable.  They are doing it mainly because they oppose the enforcement of the nation's immigration laws.

My speculation is that all 1,100 of them are liberals who do not support Republicans

Washington Post: More than 1,100 law school professors oppose Sessions’s nomination as attorney general “We are convinced that Jeff Sessions will not fairly enforce our nation’s laws and promote justice and equality,” states the letter signed by professors from 170 law schools. Did any of them complain about the DOJ's complicity in the IRS attacks on Tea Party groups?  Did nay of them think that Hillary Clinton's mishandling of classified material was no big deal?  Or, how about the DOJ's Fast and Furious fiasco?  If they were really concerned about a fair enforcement of the laws, they should have spoken out before now. They have no credibility on the issue and what they really fear is that Sessions will enforce the laws that are on the books, especially those involving immigration enforcement.  Sessions should be confirmed.

Blacks in Alabama are not buying the Democrats' Sessions is a racist meme

Power Line: Attempts to portray Senator Jeff Sessions as a racist continue to run into this problem — African-Americans who know him well aren’t buying in. I wrote here about Donald Watkins, a Black attorney who attended law school with Sessions in the early 1970s. Watkins says that his interactions with Sessions back then, and throughout the years since, have convinced him that the Senator is a good man. “Jeff was a conservative then, as he is now, but he was NOT a racist,” Watkins wrote on his Facebook page. Watkins has expressed regret at not coming forward to defend Sessions 30 year ago, when the racism smear was invoked against the Alabama man in judicial confirmation proceedings. Arlen Spector, who cast the decisive vote against Sessions at that time, also later expressed regret. After getting to know Sessions as a colleague on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Specter called his vote one of the biggest mistakes of his career. Now Quinton Ross, the leader of the Democratic ...

Sessions can prosecute sanctuary cities without further acts of Congress

Washington Times: Sen. Jeff Sessions is on record saying so-called “sanctuary cities” that protect illegal immigrants should be prosecuted. He himself may get that chance next year. Mr. Sessions is president-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be the next attorney general, and if he’s confirmed — a very large if, at this point — he will mark a 180-degree turn from the Obama administration on a host of issues, but nowhere more so than on immigration, where he’s been the Senate’s leading crackdown proponent. From his first day in office, Mr. Sessions will have the power to strip some federal funding from sanctuary cities, thanks to rulings this year by the Justice Department’s inspector general, who said federal law requires localities to cooperate with immigration agents — and who provided an initial list of a handful of the worst offenders. “The sanctuary cities thing is huge. I think most jurisdictions are going to fold like a cheap suit,” said Rosemary Jenks, government relations ma...

The real reasons Democrats fear Jeff Sessions as AG

Byron York: ... Here's why the effort to stop Sessions is likely to intensify as his confirmation hearings near. Sessions is the Senate's highest-profile, most determined, and most knowledgeable opponent of comprehensive immigration reform. Democrats are particularly anxious about immigration because of the unusually tenuous nature of President Obama's policies on the issue. Those policies can be undone unilaterally, by the new president in some cases, and by the attorney general and head of homeland security in other cases. There's no need for congressional action — and no way for House or Senate Democrats to slow or stop it. There are extensive, and in some cases, strict immigration laws on the books, passed by bipartisan majorities of Congress. Obama wanted Congress to change those laws. Congress declined. So Obama stopped enforcing provisions of the law that he did not like. A new administration could simply resume enforcement of the law — a move that by itself...

Tucker Carlson punctures the 'racist' charge against Sessions

This is a pretty good cross examination of the author of what appears to be a political smear against Sessions.
