The George W. Bush presidency proved that being nice to Democrats was a waste of time and effort

Washington Post Op-ed:
Donald Trump may be the best thing that ever happened to George W. Bush

...
Washington, it seems, has developed Bush nostalgia. Just nine years after he left the White House, many conservatives pine for their misunderestimated good old boy from Texas. Looking in the rearview mirror, the last Republican president suddenly appears measured, compassion, principled — in short, presidential. Even liberals who could not wait for Barack Obama to move into the White House are grudgingly penitent, privately admitting that they didn’t appreciate Bush’s good qualities.

I liked George Bush as President and still like him.  But his major weakness was not fighting back against the unfair attacks of Democrats comparing him to Hitler like they now compare Trump.  Democrats can't just disagree on policy they have to demonize and they certainly did that in spades with Bush.  While I have been critical of some of the drama that surrounds President Trump. I like the fact that he counter punches against unfair Democrat attacks.  I get the feeling that when the next Republican president is in office Democrats will look back with nostalgia at Trump.  It is what they do.

  1. If the Democrats fail to take back the House, lose seats in the Senate (they will) the entire party will come unhinged. Trump's coverage has been 91% negative.
