If the immigrants were economists with bylines people like Krugman would change their minds

NY Times Op-ed:

Return of the Blood Libel

There’s no immigration crisis, just a hatred crisis.
The hatred crisis is that of the elites for the workers who are displaced by this wave of illegal immigrants.  With the Trump economy finally bringing these people back into the workforce, people like Krugman would add people competing for those jobs and holding wages down while he and liberals pretend that raising the minimum wage will work.

If the refugees were potential Republicans the left's view would also be different.  In fact, when Obama was importing Syrians he discriminated against Christians in favor of Muslims.  This was the case even though the Christians were the ones facing genocide from ISIS.  I think the main reason he did that was because he thought the Christians would be more conservative.
