Why Trump?

Erick Erickson:
The Tie That Binds All Trump Supporters

...
Michael Barone has noted a common thread that links Trump voters. It is a lack of social connectedness. The more likely someone is to actively participate in their community or engage within family structures, the less likely the person is to vote for Trump. A good example of that is evangelicals. The more frequently someone goes to church, the less likely they are to vote for Trump.

That still does not explain why some Evangelical leaders have embraced Trump.  I know Rush Limbaugh has devoted a lot of busy broadcast minutes trying to explain Trump's support, but I still find it irrational and inexplicable for the most part.  I tend to see them as marks who have bought into the con and bitterly cling to it regardless of the incoherence and false premises.
