There is a reason it has been called the 'long war'
NY Times Editorial:
The plan has several aspects, but the focus is on the destruction of the enemy and its sanctuaries. That is why there will be more focus on Pakistan. It is a move away from nation building which has resulted in supplying the Taliban with targets to focus on.
The "no end in sight" is deliberate to avoid giving the enemy hope. You win wars by persuading the enemy that its cause is hopeless. One of the many mistakes Obama made was giving a timeline for troop reductions which clearly gave the Taliban reason for hope that they could just wait the US out. It is another example of Obama's ineptitude in military operations similar to his disastrous retreat from Iraq that led to genocide. Trump wisely chose to avoid that in Afghanistan.
Politico has a story which catalogs many of Obama's mistakes in Afghanistan.
Was this written by the same group who screwed up the editorial blaming Sarah Palin for the shooting by a wacko in Arizona? It seems to have the same lack of coherent thinking.Mr. Trump on Afghanistan: More of the Same; No End in Sight
The president’s vague plan can’t be called a strategy.
