The nonsensical reparations movement

Theodore Johnson:

A new approach to reparationsA new approach to reparations

We used to count black Americans as 3/5 of a person. Now, give them 5/3 of a vote.
If the US is such a racial hell hole, why do so many Africans want to immigrate to this country.   And why do those who do immigrate here do better than some blacks whose families have been here for generations.  The opportunities are here to be seized and many blacks do so whether their ancestors were slaves or not.

The original reparations movement was just as silly.  It made about as much sense as having the Egyptians pay the Jews for the time they were slaves.  The Turks enslaved Europeans under much more harsh conditions than the African slave trade.  Slaves were chained to their oars on Turkish ships and stayed there literally until they died.  The term slaves is derived from the Slavs who were one of the chief sources of slaves for the Muslim Turks.

BTW, the 3/5's compromise was the result of slave owners wanting to count their slaves for purposes of allocation of congressional districts and the none slave states not wanting to count them at all.  When you know the historical context of the compromise it makes the argument for reparations look even sillier.
