Are Trump supporters the GOP 'rank and file'?

The appeal from Mitt Romney and the furious reaction to it captured the essence of the party’s schism.
What Mitt Romney said about Trump was defensible and true for the most part, but he and the establishment are imperfect messengers of those arguments.  It is the party establishment that said it was going to repeal Obamacare, defund Obama's amnesty program, and cut spending, only to do the opposite after getting elected, that has so angered many voters.   They feel like they have been defrauded by the establishment who thought they were elected to get things done even if was things they said they would not do.

The real fight now is over whether the GOP will choose a deal maker like Trump or someone who will do what he says like Cruz.   There is also the question of "who are the Trump voters?"  I think many of them are Democrats who feel aliented by their own party or who just want to mess with the Republicans.  Their numbers may be diminished in the coming closed primaries where voters must be Republicans to vote in the GOP race.
