Russia to impose retaliatory sanctions in response to US

NY Times:

After Sanctions, Putin Orders U.S. to Cut 755 Embassy Staff

  • Speaking in a television interview, President Vladimir V. Putin said that the number of workers at American diplomatic posts in Russia must be cut by Sept. 1.
  • The decision escalated tensions between Washington and Moscow, as the Kremlin was fighting against new U.S. sanctions.
These appear to be sanctions that will inconvenience both countries in their diplomatic interactions.  The real sanctions that will harm the Russian economy will do the most damage and it will be hard for Russia to hurt the US economy with sanctions on business.
