Muslim mass hysteria kills 453 and wounds 719 in Saudi Arabia

NY Times:

Stampede Near Mecca Leaves at Least 453 Dead


The accident in Saudi Arabia, in which 719 were also injured, occurred on the first day of Eid al-Adha, one of the holiest Muslim holidays.
There is something about this religion that lends itself to this kind of event.  Large crowds and high emotion create a volatile  environment.

The carnage happened at a "stoning of the devil" ritual.  For many, the devil apparently won this confrontation.
