It is a shared responsibility

NY Times:

Events Recall a More Bipartisan Era, and Highlight Gridlock of Today

A political opposition that is still bitter about President Obama’s victory remains unwilling to compromise on social policy, economics or foreign affairs.
There is still anger over the way Obama won.  He deliberately chose a cynical negative campaign aimed at suppressing the white working class vote.  As early as the spring of 2012 he knew he could not win on the issues so he had to make whomever got the GOP nomination unacceptable to a significant portion of the voters.   It was largely concentrated in about eight states and was unfortunately for Romney successful.

But, Obama bought himself an opposition that will continue to oppose his radical policies.  This is especially true of his tax and spending policies.  The opposition to his despised health care plan will also continue.  Then there is his failed energy schemes as well as his attempts to block domestic production of oil and gas on federal sites.

The Republicans are not going to give up their principles just because Obama eked out a victory with a scurrilousness campaign.  Democrats and liberals in the media seem blind to the way Obama won.  They also seem blind to his ineptitude when it comes to negotiation.  And, perhaps Obama has problems in his own party structuring a deal they will accept if it involves compromise.
