The unreal Rich at NY Times

Frank Rich

is upset with CNN for making Bill O'Reilly right in criticizing them for keep Carville and Begala on Crossfire after they went to work for the Kerry campaign. He then goes on to lament how other network news organizations have failed to respond to competition from the Fox News shows. In complaining about Fox's competition or lack thereof, he makes brief reference to CBS's hit piece on the President's Air National Guard service, without bothering to mention that the show was based on forged documents and contradictory testimony. If Rich cannot bring himself to mention one of the most embarrassing episodes in TV news history in a column moaning the decline in Fox's competitiors, how does he expect them to ever set their house in order. These people are not going to get better by ignoring their obvious problems and complaining about what they do not like about Fox.

What they really do not like about Fox is that it gives voice to a message they would like to suppress.

Rich also shows his lack of comprehension of what the Swiftvets are saying about Kerry. He mentions the Washington Post story about Larry Thurlows medal citation confirming Kerry version of events without mentioning that the Swiftvets and Thurlow were also challenging Thurlow's citation. Rich is only willing to hear what he wants to hear when it comes to the Swiftvets and that explains why he and many other liberals do not comprehend why the Swiftvets story has been so successful in cutting into Kerry's support among veterans, or for that matter, why people might go to Fox news so they can hear that side of the story--the side Rich wants to suppress.
