Media did it to itself when it comes to lack of support, has failed to challenge attacks on speech on campus

Washington Post:
The corrosion of support for the First Amendment started before Trump. He supercharged it.

Polls show the president’s daily drumbeat against journalism he doesn’t like has clearly taken a toll on the Fourth Estate.
The media has always had a double standard defending liberals and attacking conservatives.  What has happened with Trump is that they have cast aside the pretensions of objectivity and made many unfair attacks on the President.  Unlike his predecessors, Trump does not stoically absorb the blows.  He fights back, and the media is not used to that so they double down on hostility rather than return to objectivity.

The Washington Post has been much worse than the NY Times in this regard.  It has become hard to find any objective coverage of President Trump on its front page.  I am sure that the Times writers are for the most part just as hostile to the President's agenda, but they do appear more professional in their approach.

The real threat to the First Amendment is coming from the left.  On campuses they seek to shut down speakers they disagree with and some cases violently attack them.  Some in Silicon Valley are also censoring speech by conservatives, and especially those that are critical of radical Islam.  In contrast, all President Trump has done is vent when he feels unfairly attacked.
