The US is helping friendly governments fight ISIS and al Qaeda

This was clear to me when Obama authorized the mission and when the question was asked of Gen. Kelly. Did the Times editorial board consult with their reporter at the news conference? Did they report the Obama authorization?
The question was asked and answered at Gen. Kelly's news briefing in response to the controversy over a condolence call to one of the widows of a Green Beret killed in Niger. The mission was authorized by the Obama administration. It is to help these governments fight a common enemy so that the US does not have to deploy thousands of troops to destroy an enemy that is trying to sponsor mass murder attacks against the US.A Deadly Ambush’s Great Mystery: What Are We Doing in Niger?
So many questions, left unanswered, lead to a fundamental one on the mission of the troops in Africa.
