Bill Clinton's math problem about "the last eight years"

NY Times:

Rivals Seize on Bill Clinton’s Remarks About Obama’s ‘Last Eight Years’

Aides to former President Bill Clinton said his words about “the awful legacy of the last eight years” were intended as criticism of the Republican-led Congress and not President Obama, but that didn’t stop opponents of Hillary Clinton from accentuating the remarks.
If he were really talking about Republicans in Congress he would have said the last five years, since the Democrats enjoyed substantial majorities in Obama's first two years.  It is what they and Obama did with those majorities that led to the Republican majorities.  The fact is that Obama has demonstrated a failed leadership and an inability to work with those who don't embrace the evils of liberalism.
