Texas busts huge drug and arms operation in Austin

Texas state authorities working with Austin police on Thursday seized a cache of deadly drugs and multiple firearms headed for Mexico.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott attributed the seizure to the partnership between the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Austin Police – a collaboration that drew some protest when it was first announced last month.

Abbott said the discovery came after DPS Special Agents assigned to the Austin Violent Crimes Task Force (AVCTF) observed a drug deal and made a felony arrest. An investigation led to DPS’ SWAT unit executing a search warrant.

The agents seized more than half-a-million lethal doses of fentanyl – or enough to kill roughly half of Austinites. The agents found methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin that had been smuggled in from Mexico.

DPS Special Agents also found thermal infrared binoculars, ballistic vests, ammunition, and a range of firearms – some of which had been stolen – that were bound for Mexico.

The DPS got involved after Austin city officials defunded the police and reduced officers.  Defunding the police is clearly a mistake and it is one made mostly by liberal city officials.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014. Only 71% of employers surveyed said they did not expect to drop their health coverage, while 20% said they did not know and 9% said they were planning to exit. The latest survey, conducted by Towers Watson, echoes an ealier survey by McKinsey & Co. finding that 30% of private-sector employers were planning to drop their employee health insurance coverage by 2014. When the Congressional Budget Office crunched Obamacare's spending numbers, they estimated that only 7% of employees currently covered by employer-sponsored plans would lose their plans. ...
