California as a bad example for other states

NY Times:

A Red-Meat Rallying Cry for National Republicans: California

California is being held up by Republican officeseekers in several states as an emblem of high taxes, lax immigration enforcement and overregulation.
One of the things that upsets Texans is the idea that Californians who moved here might be voting for the same crap that ruined California for them to begin with.  That is one of the arguments against Beto O'Rourke who is getting much of his financial backing from California.  California is the home of unaffordable housing and disease and pestilence caused by a large homeless population that make part of the state look like a third world country.  They waste money on illegals while allowing their infrastructure to crumble.
