Stimulus insanity--again

NY Post Editorial:

President Obama's Plan A for eco nomic recovery -- a $787 billion stimulus package -- isn't working. But never fear: His advisers are ready with Plan B.

Unfortunately, it's a repeat of Plan A.

That's right: One of his economic gurus, Laura Tyson, argued yesterday that the president's package was too small to do the job and that a second package should be considered.

Unions are also pushing for more dough.

It fits all too well under one definition of insanity: repeating the same behavior while expecting a different result.

Tyson insisted the February stimulus is working, "but not in the timing."

Indeed. Unemployment, which the Obama folks said wouldn't top 8 percent, is at 9.5 percent, the highest in 26 years.

But critics predicted that the timing, and the type of spending, would jinx the plan. After all, government is never able to inject huge sums with enough speed and efficiency to make a difference.

And this stimulus was especially misdirected: It sought to bail out states facing deficits, like New York, protecting social-service programs. (Albany used its take to boost an already bloated budget.)

...
Tax cuts are the superior stimulus, but Democrats do not like them because they lose control of the spending and have to give up that power top the tax payers. It is their control freak mentality that pushes them toward the programs that do not work, but allow them to buy the votes of certain constituent groups. The only spending programs that have resulted in stimulus are increased military spending. In World War II it pulled us out of the depression and in the 80s it, along with tax cuts, helped to pull us out of a recession. But, the Democrats rejected both cutting defense spending and ignoring the kind of tax cuts that make a difference.

  1. The Porkulus is a train-wreck- these jobs figures are far worse than the ones the White House warned us about if we DIDN’T pass the bill- so it was passed, and then unemployment soars anyway?

Instead of creating jobs, interest rates were bumped up, the dollar slid… and it didn’t help anybody get any work. Much of this is due to the fact that Obama’s agenda has mortified almost every machine of job-and-growth creation in the country.

The One couldn’t deliver the type of “temporary, targeted, and timely” bill that he promised repeatedly. And regardless of his image in the MSM, Obama simply lacks the the political stature to control Pelosi and Reid… who hit the trough hard, while bickering like children.

And the lack of GOP co-conspirators exposed Obama politically… this legislation now looks to be a HUGE gamble. And when all this pork-n-welfare fails to generate any real economic gains, the Democrats will face a bloodbath in 2010.
