Google becomes an answering service

USA Today:

Get ready for Google Voice: The Web search giant is entering the Internet phone market with a sophisticated product aimed at tying together all of your cellphone voicemail, landline messages and e-mail boxes.

Google Voice is a new program, coming soon, that assigns you a new central phone number to monitor all your various messages.

Sign in to voice.google.com, pick up a new phone number in your local area code, and assign your various phone numbers to it. Now, when you get voice mail calls on your various phones, the messages are transcribed for free. They instantly show up in your Gmail e-mail box.

In our tests of the service this week, the e-mail transcription happened within seconds.

Unlike Gmail, there are no ads. Google hopes to make money on Voice by selling low-cost international calls.

You dial in to your Google Voice number, get a dialtone, and then make the international call.

I think this is way cool. I am going to sign up ASAP. Going through voice mail has become a pain, and seeing it in my Gmail account will handle it much more quickly. This is especially true for my cell phone which I only use when I want to make a call, and am often interrupted by having to respond to some message that has been on there for days. I think it will also be handy for calls to my daughter and her family in Thailand.

    Google Voice isn't a phone answering services, but it lets you manage all of your phones. Google Voice will let you define which phones ring, based on who's calling, and even let you ListenInTM on voicemail before answering the call. as he saying...!!

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014.
