Refugees is probably one reason Syria gets more attention than the war in Yemen

NY Times:

Why Syria’s Conflict Gets More Attention Than Yemen’s War

Some of the reasons are obvious; the scale of Syria’s war is catastrophic and much worse than Yemen’s. But attention is about more than numbers.
Take a look at the geography.  The Syrian refugees have been going to Turkey and then to Europe and the US.  They have also been going to Jordan.  Yemen has no amenable borders for refugees.  Its major protagonist is Saudi Arabia which controls its northern border.  It has the Red Sea to its west and the Oman desert to its east.

I suspect that the Syrian strategy is also to get rid of people who do not support the government so they are opening avenues of retreat.
