Two tropical disturbances headed for Gulf Coast

Daily Mail:

Mesmerizing footage shows SIX waterspouts in the Gulf of Mexico as Houston goes on alert for double whammy from Tropical Storm Laura and Tropical Storm Marco - that could both hit as hurricanes at the SAME time on Wednesday

  • Tropical storm Laura is expected to hit the central Gulf Coast around Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle on Wednesday - the same time Tropical storm Marco is expected to hit Texas
  • Two hurricanes have never appeared in the Gulf of Mexico at the same time, according to records going back to at least 1900
  • The last time two tropical storms were in the Gulf together was in 1959
  • Laura was forecast to hit Puerto Rico on Saturday morning, and move towards the Dominican Republic and Haiti late Saturday and Cuba on Sunday
  • The storm set a record for the earliest 12th named storm of a season when it formed Friday morning
Forecasters have suggested landfall anywhere from the Florida Gulf Coast to Texas.  I have seen one forecast suggesting that both storms could converge on the Louisiana coast.  Laura appears to be the strongest at this point.
