Washington Post:
...Rigging an election so that the majority win? Zarqawi does not seem to understand the concept with some of his deperately angry statements. He sounds as bad as Democrats talking about saving social security. What kind of oppression is it to have an election whre the people can select their own ruler? One thing is really clear, this election has really frightened Zarqawi and bin Laden. They have successfully positioned themselves where every vote cast is a vote against them. It would appear that in the so called war of ideas theirs is being rejected.
"We have declared a fierce war on this evil principle of democracy and those who follow this wrong ideology," said the speaker, who identified himself as Zarqawi. "Anyone who tries to help set up this system is part of it."
Zarqawi said the Americans had rigged the election to favor Iraq's majority Shiite Muslim population, which was persecuted under deposed leader Saddam Hussein. Zarqawi also accused the Shiites of selling out to the Americans.
"Oh, people of Iraq," he said in the broadcast, "where is your honor? Have you accepted oppression of the crusader harlots . . . and the rejectionist pigs?"
One of the writers of this WaPo story was the hapless Jackie Spinner who told the "slap your momma" story about a guy who decided he did not like the Americans any more after his porn collection was discovered. Spinner never did say why the guy decided to slap his mother because he was angry with the Americans. See the Tim Blair link below.
In todays story Spinner et.al. include the following:
Apparently Spinner did not ask Abu Saadiea if loss of the cows had soured his opinion of the insurgents who were responsible for their destruction.
In the village of Fataha in northern Iraq, a bomb exploded late Saturday night near an oil pipeline. A fireball floated down the banks of the Tigris River, burning trees and forcing villagers to escape with their valuables.
"I have lost my 50 cows. All of them burned and died in the fire," said Abu Saadiea, a villager. "I am not the only one who has lost his cattle. All the families who have animals close to the bank of the river died."
