Migrants opting to cross border in California instead of Texas

 Newsbreak:

Illegal immigrants have started to avoid Texas due to the moves of Governor Greg Abbott. Some are now heading west and crossing the border in California. A few migrants may see the better benefits.

Last month, California approved a health care bill that covers not only immigrants but illegal immigrants as well. California is projected to spend up to $3.1 billion on healthcare coverage for these immigrants according to The Daily Mail.

Fox News recently reported hundreds of illegal migrants entering California. They reported hundreds of migrants were crossing a mountain east of San Diego while recording their travel on video. The migrants climbed the mountain from Mexico to enter California.

Over the past three years, California has seen its rise of illegal immigrants climb from 260,000 in fiscal year 2021, 362,000 in 2022, to 450,000 in fiscal year 2023 as reported by Newsweek. California has the most illegal immigrants according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

When word of free healthcare spreads, this could cause more migrants to enter California than other border states.

Governor Abbott tried to improve border security during his third term in office. Abbott continues to build the border wall and has received support from other states to help with Operation Lone Star. One state, Missouri, has sent National Guard, police, and law enforcement equipment according to a press release.

The heightened border security in Texas has made migrants look for other ways to enter the country, including Arizona and California as reported by CBS News.

California has been losing population in recent years and may be welcoming the illegals to try to retain their congressional seats.  Texas has gained seats without pandering to illegals.
