I do not see this killing as 'complex'

The officers charged in the young Black man’s murder are also Black, complicating the anguish and efforts at police reform.

While the killing was a tragedy and should not have happened the only "complexity" might be the inability of some to make it a racially motivated crime. The crime was the use of excessive force and the lack of a responsible officer stepping in to stop it rather than joining the fray.
