Harris County Texas Sheriff nominated to head ICE

 Washington Examiner:

President Joe Biden nominated a sheriff from Houston to lead Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the White House announced Tuesday afternoon.

Biden selected Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez as director for ICE. Gonzalez will have to navigate a closely divided Senate to earn the job and at a time when liberal Democrats are determined to shutter the Department of Homeland Security agency rather than appoint a new leader.

Gonzalez is a lifelong resident of Houston and is in his second term as sheriff of the third-largest sheriff's office in the country. He first joined the Houston Police Department and worked his way up from a civilian position to officer, then sergeant. He retired from the Police Department in 2009 and was elected to three terms on the Houston City Council before running for sheriff.

Gonzalez earned his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Houston, Downtown and a master’s degree from the University of St. Thomas.

I suspect he has had experience dealing with illegals.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014. Only 71% of employers surveyed said they did not expect to drop their health coverage, while 20% said they did not know and 9% said they were planning to exit. The latest survey, conducted by Towers Watson, echoes an ealier survey by McKinsey & Co. finding that 30% of private-sector employers were planning to drop their employee health insurance coverage by 2014. When the Congressional Budget Office crunched Obamacare's spending numbers, they estimated that only 7% of employees currently covered by employer-sponsored plans would lose their plans. ...
