Freedom of worship is a civil right
NY Times:
There is a constitutional right to freedom of religion and freedom of assembly. A state that denies that is depriving people of their civil rights and they can be enjoined by the federal government. I am sure the administration can explain to the courts if necessary how the President has the power to keep states from violating civil rights. President Trump threatened to overrule states that refuse to open places of worship. The White House could not explain how he has that power, and legal experts said he did not have such authority.
