Some Democrats think Bernie Sanders is a bigger danger as candidate than removing him would be

Democratic Leaders Willing to Risk Party Damage to Stop Bernie Sanders

Interviews with dozens of Democratic Party officials, including 93 superdelegates, found overwhelming opposition to handing Mr. Sanders the nomination if he fell short of a majority of delegates.
A large divided field of candidates gives Sander's voters an outsized opportunity to seize the nomination, but it does not mean he would get widespread support after getting it.  His views are considered absurd by a large majority of Americans.  He's making excuses for despots and that is also hurting him and those who support him.
