Iran comes under pressure for money laundering and terrorism

Washington Examiner:
Iran is set to join North Korea on a major intergovernmental organization’s blacklist, further isolating the country’s regime.

The Financial Action Task Force, based in Paris, is expected to increase economic pressure on Iran by blacklisting it on Friday, according to the Wall Street Journal. The designation will add to the economic trouble the country is undergoing from the United States’s “maximum pressure” campaign against the regime.

European countries have not joined the U.S. in the campaign but have now signaled support for the Financial Action Task Force’s new measure. The task force comprises 39 countries and organizations and was formed to penalize money laundering and the financing of terrorist and criminal organizations.

Representatives of the member countries have been meeting this week and will hold a full session Friday to finalize the decision on Iran.

This looks like an obvious case for sanctions.  Iran has been the largest state sponsor of terrorism for decades.
