Media falsely claims that Mueller investigation was not sparked by discredited Steel dossier

Washington Post:
Trump calls for end of Mueller probe, says it is ‘discredited’ by Carter Page surveillance

The president falsely claimed that the special counsel investigation was sparked by surveillance of Page, a former Trump campaign adviser who was under suspicion by the FBI of being a Russian agent.
The Steele dossier which is made up of third and fourth hand hearsay from Russian intelligence was the stated reason for the FISA application and it was one of the triggers for the Mueller investigation.  It has become a meme in the media to say that the President makes false claims when he says something they disagree with.

He is making an argument that is based on the facts and they just do not find those facts convenient to their own theory of the case.   They seem to be making a deliberate effort to try to discredit the President when he points out the evidence they relied on to attack him has little connection to facts.  The Washington Post seems to have a visceral hatred for the President and anything he says.
