Contrast media coverage of FISA comparisons to Nunes memo

NY Times:

G.O.P. Memo’s Shaky Foundation Revealed in Release of Records

Documents released over the weekend plainly demonstrated that key elements of Republicans’ claims about the F.B.I.’s surveillance of Carter Page, a former Trump adviser, were misleading or false. President Trump nevertheless sought to declare victory.

It turns out that the Nunes memo, as much as Democrats jumped to criticize it at the time, was quite accurate after all.

Nunes himself claims the FISA warrant confirms his memo and says it if some of the redactions were removed it would offer even more support for his position.  My own reading of the unredacted portions of the application is that it copied many of the inaccuracies in the Steel dossier and was misleading on several points. The lack of an indictment against Carter Page by Mueller also suggests the charges in the dossier and in the application were bogus.

I get the impression the mainstream media is trying to cover up for a misguided attempt to justify the FBI conduct by biased officials.  It is likely that someone in the FBI was a source for their own reporting that was discredited by the Nunes memo.

Power Line argues that the Associated Press is lying about the FISA application as it writes a brief for those responsible for the abuses.
