Marines foil getaway attempt

Jacksonville Daily News:

Usually Marines show their bravery on the battlefield, but Saturday, two Camp Lejeune Marines helped nab a suspect who tried to flee from Jacksonville police.

Around 3 p.m. Saturday, a Jacksonville police officer clocked a vehicle driving 61 mph in a 45 mph zone near the intersection of Western Boulevard and Brynn Marr Road, said Jacksonville police Sgt. Cliff McQueen.

Police pulled the driver over and found he had no driver’s license, and the officer found drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, McQueen said. The man then ran from the officer, McQueen said.

“The suspect … ran down Brynn Marr Road, and there were two citizens, both of them Marines, that observed the suspect running in their direction,” McQueen said. “When the suspect approached them, the two Marines tackled the suspect and held (the suspect) until the officers got there.”
