Did Dems willfully ignore Biden's dementia?
...
The slow drip of revelations about Joe Biden’s health during his presidency has exposed a troubling question: were Democrats willfully blind to his decline, or were they so entrenched in power that they orchestrated a cover-up? Fox News host Harris Faulkner recently confronted former Democratic Rep. Pat Murphy of Pennsylvania, pressing him on the party’s apparent dismissal of Biden’s fading faculties. Her pointed exchange laid bare a deeper issue—whether Democrats were complicit in hiding the truth or simply too naive to see it.
Books like “Original Sin” have begun peeling back the curtain, detailing Biden’s cognitive struggles with stark clarity. One anecdote claims he failed to recognize George Clooney, an Academy Award-winning actor and longtime Democratic ally. These accounts align with murmurs that grew louder as Biden’s term progressed, murmurs that Democrats either ignored or suppressed. GOPAC Chairman David Avella, during the same Fox News segment, noted that some Democrats who once downplayed these concerns are now cashing in on tell-all books, their newfound candor conveniently timed after the Nov. 5, 2024, election.
Murphy’s response was telling, if not evasive. “If we go back to [2020], I was actually for secretary Pete [Buttigieg]. He won actually Iowa. He came in second in New Hampshire,” he said. “He was on a roll, but covid hit and shut down everything and they wanted a steady hand who was the vice president earlier. But to your point, I think it is honestly less conspiracy theory and more people who were frankly either being too gracious or frankly, just trying to hold on to power.” His attempt to frame the issue as a mix of kindness and pragmatism rang hollow, suggesting either a refusal to admit the obvious or a calculated dodge.
Faulkner wasn’t buying it. “Look, this is politics,” she shot back. “It’s a blood sport. You’re a kind soul, but come on, do you think they were just trying to be nice and they weren’t-” Her interruption cut to the core: politics rewards ruthlessness, not charity. The idea that Democrats were merely “gracious” in overlooking Biden’s decline strains credulity when power was at stake. The Wall Street Journal’s Dec. 19, 2024, report further eroded this narrative, revealing how White House aides “insulated” Biden, shielding him even from Cabinet members as his health and mental sharpness waned.

I suspect the Democrats were complicit. They were too power hungry to put the nation first. Biden's cognitive problems were often in the open for everyone to see, and the Democrats mostly ignored them. I suspect that they also did not think that Kamala Harris was any better. I think she was nominated because they thought it would secure the women voters, and not because she had demonstrated the ability to actually lead. I also suspect that some Democrats thought because of Biden's decline, they could exert more influence on his policies.
