Democrats accused of weaponizing government against political opponents

The Biden administration’s approach to governance took a dark turn, as revealed by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who has called out the Democrats’ strategy of treating conservatives and dissenting citizens as domestic terrorists. Gabbard described this mentality as an “abuse of power,” pointing to a 2021 memo that gave the FBI unprecedented authority to investigate Americans for “concerning non-criminal behavior.” This policy, now defunct under the Trump administration, exposes a chilling effort by Democrats to harness federal agencies for political harassment.

In a statement shared with reporters, Gabbard announced she has dismantled the Biden-era domestic terrorism framework, which was used to justify targeting conservative Catholics, gun owners, and parents protesting school board policies. “Disguised as an attempt to curb ‘domestic terrorism,’ Biden’s plan actually functioned as a partisan playbook on how the Biden Administration would weaponize government and intelligence against everyday Americans whose ‘offense’ was supporting President Trump, or daring to disagree with or oppose their policies,” Gabbard said. Her words lay bare the Democrats’ willingness to stretch the definition of “threat” to silence opposition.

The 2021 memo, declassified by Gabbard this spring, empowered agencies like the FBI and Homeland Security to launch probes based on mere suspicion, without evidence of criminal activity. This marked a stark departure from decades of protocol, which required a “reasonable factual basis” that a crime had been committed. By lowering the bar to vague “concerns,” Democrats opened the door to fishing expeditions against political adversaries, a move that reeks of authoritarian overreach.

Legal experts and lawmakers have sounded alarms over this policy, warning it trampled on civil liberties. Gabbard herself signaled deep unease, emphasizing the need for transparency. “To ensure transparency and accountability, I declassified and released the document, so Americans could see the truth about the Biden Administration’s weaponization and politicization of our government against Americans. This abuse of power that violates our God-given freedoms and civil liberties must end,” she told reporters. Her decision to expose the memo underscores the gravity of the Democrats’ misuse of power.

The Trump administration has since scrapped the tactics outlined in the 2021 memo, crafted by Biden’s National Security Council. A shift in priorities is evident, with domestic terrorism recently removed as a top threat from the intelligence community’s national threat assessment. This rollback signals a rejection of the Democrats’ obsession with policing thought over addressing actual crimes, a point echoed by the FBI itself.

“The last administration appeared more focused on investigating Americans for their opinions than addressing actual criminal activity,” an FBI spokesman stated. “Under new leadership, the Bureau is actively reviewing and revising its guidance to ensure our efforts are focused where they belong: on making America safe.” This admission highlights how Democrats diverted law enforcement resources to target ideological opponents rather than genuine threats.

I prosecuted fraud cases for several years, and every case involved a victim who could attest to what the perpetrator had done to illegally sell securities of dubious value.  None were thought crimes.  We could prioritize actual crimes committed against actual victims.
