The out of touch Democrats in Washington

 Josh Kraushaar:

Democratic leaders are increasingly at odds with their own voters
Even as Democratic moderates cheer Shontel Brown’s upset victory in Ohio, they’re still being held hostage to the Squad’s demands.

If Biden Democrats run Washington, why are Democratic leaders like Chuck Schumer (literally) embracing one of the party’s most outspoken advocates for defunding the police? The same day that Schumer lavished praise on Bush as a leader in the party, she returned the favor by telling CBS News that she needs private security for her own safety but doesn’t support funding the police to protect less-advantaged Americans.

“If I end up spending $200,000 [on private security], you know what? I get to be here and do the work. So suck it up, and defund the police has to happen. We need to defund the police and put that money into social safety nets,” Bush said.

Republicans couldn’t have scripted a better line to use against the opposition. Within hours, the National Republican Congressional Committee blasted out a video featuring Bush’s remarks, tying her comments to headlines of rising violent crime across the country. Their Senate counterparts put any Democratic candidate with a connection to Bush on the spot, asking if they agreed with her remarks. It’s a sound bite that’s guaranteed to reemerge in paid advertising as the midterms draw closer.

What’s remarkable is that the party’s indulgence of Bush comes when the momentum is squarely with the moderates. In nearly every intraparty clash this year between moderates and progressives, the moderates have decisively prevailed—all in some of the bluest turf on the national map.

Democrat leadership is clearly wackier than their base.  They can't seem to help themselves and keep pushing one of the most radical agendas in history.  They can expect to see more ads about their screwy "defund the police" movement.
