Virus in decline in much of US with the exception of California

 Red States:

Many on the left have been flipping out, claiming we’re in the middle of a “surge” in Wuhan virus cases.

They are then using the numbers to justify more crackdowns and to attack places like Florida that have a more sane and humane approach.

Except there’s a small problem with that claim of a “surge,” as Townhall points out.

Without California, our Wuhan virus numbers would be declining.

From Mercury News:

As other regions of the country finally see some relief from the insidious coronavirus, California’s surge has grown so large it now claims a dark distinction in the nation’s outbreak: Without the Golden State, U.S. numbers would be dropping.

That’s according to The COVID Tracking Project at The Atlantic, which analyzes data from across the country.

So that’s good for the rest of the country, it really isn’t doing the surge that was expected, at least not yet.

But then that raises another big point. California has some of the strictest restrictions in the nation. They just decided today to lock everyone down again indefinitely. So why is it surging with all those restrictions? Might it just be that those restrictions don’t work?

From Politico:

“Nationally, there has been a kaleidoscopic application of every imaginable type of lockdown order with California being the most restrictive and inflicting the most devastation on small businesses and the most economically vulnerable service workers. And still, we are none the better as far as COVID is concerned,” California Restaurant Association President and CEO Jot Condie said in a statement. “In fact in L.A. where indoor and outdoor dining are completely shut down, with indoor dining [closed] since July, the virus rages on.” [….]

Assemblymember Jordan Cunningham (R-Templeton) argued that the state’s attempt to “shut down types of human interaction without seeing if that’s effective” was creating a backlash of sorts — “driving people to higher-risk activity” like gathering indoors at home, rather than places like restaurants.

“The public health officials have lost credibility with a huge section of the populace. They’re just tuning them out now,” Cunningham said. “The goalposts are moving all the time. … People are fed up with it and they don’t think it makes any sense, and they’re not wrong.”

...

The restriction on the normal activity does not appear to be any more effective than having no restrictions.  Florida and Texas combined are doing better than California and neither of those states currently has a lockdown.  Could it be that lockdowns do not allow people to spend time doing normal outdoor activities where they could get vitamin D-3 from the sunshine?
