Fair fight?

I heard Col. Allen West describing some advice he got from a Marine Sergeant.  "If you find yourself in a fair fight, it means your tactics suck."  That sounds like some of the instructions I got when I was in the Corps.  You objective is to overwhelm the enemy and make it clear that he cannot prevail.
