The screwy Democrat hysteria over listening to communications with al Qaeda
If the US got a court approved wiretap of a US citizen, the tap would not just listen to the target's end of the coversation. It would listen to every coversation that individual had on the tapped phone whether the target was talking to a criminal or cold call from an investment broker.
According to most reports the NSA is listening to calls made by or to known or suspected al Qaeda operatives who are outside this country. No one questions the legality of listening to those calls if the party on the other end is in another country. What the Democrats are questioning is the legality of listening to those calls when one side of the conversation takes place in the US. The question I have is how is this different from the situation described above?
It seems to me that the fact that some known al Qaeda operative is talking to an agent in this country is material to our national security and only an idiot would say we should not listen and determine if another strike is eminent. The Democrat's terrorist privacy protection policy just makes no sense.
