California's inept handling of homelessness is driving up the numbers for the country as a whole

NY Times:

Homelessness Rises 2.7 Percent, Driven by California’s Crisis, Report Says

Soaring rates of homelessness in California, which is struggling with out-of-reach housing costs and
affordable housing construction, pulled that figure upward.
Liberal politicians in California do not seem capable of dealing with the crisis caused by their over-regulation of home construction and limiting of building sites.  They have also compounded the problem with an inability to deal with the drug problem and mental health issues. A recent Supreme Court ruling is likely to make the problem worse and spread it from the West Coast to the rest of the country.
