NFL's response to Trump's criticism of anthem protests shows they are out of touch with fans

ESPN:
President Donald Trump criticized NFL players who lodge protests during the pregame national anthem, saying Friday night that he wished those players would be released and encouraging fans who are offended to walk out of stadiums.

The NFL responded Saturday with a brief statement.

"The NFL and our players are at our best when we help create a sense of unity in our country and our culture. There is no better example than the amazing response from our clubs and players to the terrible natural disasters we've experienced over the last month. Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players, and a failure to understand the overwhelming force for good our clubs and players represent in our communities," the statement said.

There is much irony in this response to Trump's criticism.  The anthem protests are intended to be a disrespectful act to those who sacrifice to keep them safe.  Usually, the anthem is preceded by the phrase, "To honor America..."  The players engaged in these protest show a lack of respect for those who made them millionaires.

I am not interested in watching anyone who disrespects the national anthem and the flag.  To compare them with someone like JJ Watt who did great things to help flood victims is a shame.  Do you think Kolin Kaepernick could have done that?  In the Houston floods, people of all races came together to help those in need regardless of race.

I think these protests grow out of the Ferguson, Missouri "hands up don't shoot" lie that was used as a rallying cry for Black Lives Matter.  If they really believe their namesake they would be marching in Chicago against the black on black crime that is killing more people than have been killed in the confrontations with the cops.

Trump is showing himself much more in touch with the NFL fanbase than the head of the NFL.

BTW, Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys told his players he expects them to respect the anthem and the flag or they will be out of a job.  The other owners should do the same.
