Obama wants rich to pay more than their fair share of income taxes

NY Times:

President Obama on Wednesday will rule out any compromise that would extend the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy beyond this year, officials said, adding a populist twist to an election-season economic package that is otherwise designed to entice support from big businesses and their Republican allies.

...
Someone should ask Obama what percentage of the total income taxes should be paid by those making more than $200,000 a year. I bet he hasn't a clue what percentage they now pay, but he should then compare it with the bottom 50 percent of tax payers.

It is quite possible that Obama really intends to offer a poison pen deal to Republicans so he can have all the Bush tax cuts go away for everyone. That is probably something he would really like to see.

Democrats have been demagogues about these tax cuts ever since they passed and it would be a mistake to believe they are acting in good faith about them now.

But, assuming he is acting in good faith what he is doing is taking money from small business so he can give it back to some of them willing to jump through hoops set up by Obama and the Democrats.
