Grayson deceit not playing well in Florida race
Byron York:
A new Sunshine State News poll shows Grayson trailing Webster by seven points.
...Earlier Grayson had falsely accused Webster of being a draft dodger. Grayson is clearly a guy with few inhibitions when it comes to deceit. He has even gotten the local liberal newspaper criticizing him as well as MSNBC. So far he is not backing down, but is in fact doubling down on deceit.
The "Taliban Dan" ad features video snippets from remarks Webster made to a Christian gathering in 2009. Addressing a group of men, Webster discussed the Biblical admonition for wives to submit to husbands, telling them they should not use the passage as a guide for their married lives. But the Grayson ad pulled out bits of video to make it appear that Webster was telling women to submit to their husbands. Here is the transcript of the Grayson ad:
Announcer: Religious fanatics tried to take away our freedom in Afghanistan, in Iran and right here in Central Florida.
Webster: Wives submit yourselves to your own husband.
Announcer: Daniel Webster wants to impose his radical fundamentalism on us.
Webster: She should submit to me. That’s in the Bible.
Announcer: Webster tried to deny battered women medical care, and the right to divorce their abusers.
Webster: Submit to me.
Announcer: He wants to force raped women to bear the child.
Webster: Submit to me.
Announcer: Taliban Dan Webster. Hands off our bodies, and our laws.
Here is a transcript of what Webster actually said:
So, write a journal. Second, find a verse. I have a verse for my wife, I have verses for my wife. Don't pick the ones that say, 'She should submit to me.' That's in the Bible, but pick the ones that you’re supposed to do. So instead, 'love your wife, even as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for it' as opposed to 'wives submit to your own husbands.' She can pray that, if she wants to, but don’t you pray it.
Grayson ripped Webster's words so far out of context that it approaches, or perhaps reaches, the point of slander....
